Description
This is a hand-woven wool flatweave runner in a soft ivory-oatmeal ground,
banded with thin navy and rust stripes and finished with a clean navy inner
frame. It is a true flatweave, so it sits low and flush to the floor, slides
under a door with no catching, and takes daily foot traffic in a kitchen or
hallway without crushing the way a plush pile does.
WHY A FLATWEAVE
Flatweave means the design is built in the weave itself rather than knotted or
tufted into a backing. There is no pile to flatten, no latex layer, and no
shedding of cut fibre. The result is a low-profile, hard-wearing, lightweight
rug that is easy to lift, shake out and reposition — which is exactly what a
working kitchen runner needs. Both faces are woven, so the rug can be turned
end to end to even out wear.
MATERIALS AND CRAFTSMANSHIP
Woven from wool on traditional looms in Bhadohi, India, by weavers from a
three-generation family workshop. Wool is naturally resilient and springs back
under footfall, and it holds dye deeply, so the navy and rust stripes stay
crisp rather than fading to a wash. Each runner is woven to order, one at a
time, and the ribbed texture you see is the weft structure of the weave itself.
SIZES
Available in the full runner grid — roughly 2 to 3 ft wide and 5 to 20 ft long
— plus standard area rug sizes from 3x5 ft (91x152 cm) up to 9x12 ft
(274x366 cm). Choose your size from the dropdown, or message us for a custom
size or a custom width.
STYLING AND PLACEMENT
Built for galley kitchens, long hallways, entryways, laundry rooms and the
strip in front of a sink or range. The neutral ivory ground works with warm oak
and walnut floors, painted shaker cabinetry and stone counters, and it suits
modern farmhouse, coastal, Scandinavian, Japandi and transitional interiors.
For a kitchen run, leave 3 to 6 inches of floor visible on each side rather
than filling the aisle wall to wall. For a hallway, choose a length that stops
short of the end wall by about 12 to 18 inches.
CARE, VARIATION AND LONGEVITY
Vacuum on a suction-only setting with the beater bar off. Blot spills straight
away with a clean cloth and cool water; do not rub or soak. Professional
cleaning is recommended for a full clean. Because each piece is woven by hand,
expect slight variation in colour depth, stripe spacing and finished size —
generally within about 2 percent — which is the mark of a handmade rug, not a
flaw. A thin non-slip pad is strongly recommended on wood and tile: it stops
the runner travelling and adds a little cushion underfoot.
FAQ
Will it shed?
Very little. Flatweaves have no cut pile, so shedding is minimal compared to a
tufted or knotted rug. Some light loose fibre in the first week is normal.
Is it pet and kid friendly?
Yes. The flat surface has no loops to snag claws and wipes clean easily, which
makes it one of the more practical constructions for busy households.
Does it come with a rug pad?
No, a pad is not included. We recommend adding a thin non-slip pad, especially
on sealed hardwood or tile.
Can I get a custom size or a different width?
Yes. Custom lengths and widths are woven to order. Message us with your
measurements and we will confirm pricing and timeline.
How long does made to order take?
Weaving plus finishing typically takes a few weeks depending on size, followed
by shipping. Current timelines are shown at checkout.
Will the colours match what I see on screen?
Very closely, though screen calibration varies. The ivory reads warm and
slightly oatmeal in daylight, the navy is deep and slightly inky, and the
stripe is a burnt rust rather than a bright orange.
Message us for a custom size, a custom width, or a different stripe colourway —
we weave to order and are happy to make it fit your space.
Rug Care & Maintenance
Vacuum gently once or twice a week using a brush attachment — avoid rotary brush heads. Do not machine wash. For spills, blot immediately with a dry cloth; never rub. With simple care, your handmade wool rug will stay beautiful for decades.

Questions, Answered
Everything you want to know before you buy
Handmade rugs raise real questions — about wool, shedding, sizing and shipping. Here are ours, answered plainly.
Can I order a custom size or colour?
Yes. Almost everything we make can be woven to your dimensions and palette, including round, runner and oversized pieces. Custom orders take about 4-6 weeks. Send us your measurements and a colour reference to start.
Are your rugs safe for pets and children?
Yes. Our rugs are crafted using natural wool and non-toxic dyes without chemical-backed coatings. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and flame-resistant, making it a great choice for family homes. If a loop is accidentally pulled by a pet, simply trim it carefully with scissors rather than pulling it.
Do I need a rug pad underneath it?
We highly recommend using one. A quality rug pad helps prevent slipping, protects your flooring, adds extra comfort underfoot, and extends the lifespan of your rug by reducing wear from daily foot traffic. It's especially beneficial on hardwood, tile, and other smooth surfaces.
How should I clean and care for my rug?
Vacuum weekly on a low setting. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth — press, don't rub. For anything that has set, use a professional rug cleaner. Avoid soaking the rug, bleach, and steam cleaning.
Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?
Yes, light shedding is normal during the first few weeks. These are loose fibers left from the finishing process and will gradually reduce with regular use. Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting (without a rotating beater bar), and shedding typically settles within about a month. It is a natural characteristic of quality wool rugs.
No question matches that. Message us and we'll answer it directly.
