Description

Quiet, sculptural and calming. This taupe wavy line runner rug is all about texture: a single soft taupe tone, hand carved with flowing lines that drift and gather along the length like water over sand, inside a carved inner border with gently rounded corners. Hand tufted in wool with a dense, velvety pile, the tone-on-tone design catches the light and changes with the time of day.

Materials and craftsmanship

Each runner is hand tufted in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, India. Wool yarn is punched by hand through a cotton cloth stretched on a frame, then sheared to an even, dense pile. The outlines are hand carved, which lifts each shape slightly above its neighbour so the design reads crisply underfoot. Finally the runner is backed with cotton canvas and the edges are hand-bound for a clean, fringe-free finish that suits busy kitchens and hallways.

Styling and placement

It is made for Japandi and minimalist spaces: light oak or ash cabinets, microcement or pale stone floors, matte black taps and simple ceramics. Its neutral tone also softens white kitchens, hallways and bathrooms without adding pattern or colour.

Choosing your runner size

Leave 10–15 cm (4–6 in) of floor showing on each side of a hallway runner, and 30–45 cm (12–18 in) at each end. In a galley kitchen, a 2.6 ft wide runner suits most aisles; choose 3 ft for wider walkways and 2 ft for narrow halls. Runners with rounded corners are measured at their longest and widest points. Need a length not listed? We tuft custom sizes to order.

Care and longevity

Vacuum regularly with suction only, beater bar off. Blot spills straight away with a clean cloth and spot clean with a mild wool-safe detergent. A thin rug pad stops it sliding on hard floors, and turning it end to end every few months keeps wear even. New wool sheds a little loose fibre for the first few weeks; this settles with regular vacuuming. Allow slight colour variation between batches and a size tolerance of up to 2%.

Frequently asked questions

Is the pattern a different colour?

No. The design is created purely by hand-carving channels into a single-colour pile, so it reads as texture and shadow rather than print. Light falling across the runner brings the lines to life.

How long does it take to make?

10 to 15 days from order, as each runner is tufted to order. Shipping is added on top.

Can I order a custom size or colour?

Yes. Message us with your hallway or kitchen measurements and we will send a quote and colour layout.

Rug Care & Maintenance

Vacuum gently once or twice a week using a brush attachment — avoid rotary brush heads. Do not machine wash. For spills, blot immediately with a dry cloth; never rub. With simple care, your handmade wool rug will stay beautiful for decades.

Questions, Answered

Everything you want to know before you buy

Handmade rugs raise real questions — about wool, shedding, sizing and shipping. Here are ours, answered plainly.

Are your rugs safe for pets and children?

Yes. Our rugs are crafted using natural wool and non-toxic dyes without chemical-backed coatings. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and flame-resistant, making it a great choice for family homes. If a loop is accidentally pulled by a pet, simply trim it carefully with scissors rather than pulling it.

Do I need a rug pad underneath it?

We highly recommend using one. A quality rug pad helps prevent slipping, protects your flooring, adds extra comfort underfoot, and extends the lifespan of your rug by reducing wear from daily foot traffic. It's especially beneficial on hardwood, tile, and other smooth surfaces.

Can I order a custom size or colour?

Yes. Almost everything we make can be woven to your dimensions and palette, including round, runner and oversized pieces. Custom orders take about 4-6 weeks. Send us your measurements and a colour reference to start.

How should I clean and care for my rug?

Vacuum weekly on a low setting. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth — press, don't rub. For anything that has set, use a professional rug cleaner. Avoid soaking the rug, bleach, and steam cleaning.

Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?

Yes, light shedding is normal during the first few weeks. These are loose fibers left from the finishing process and will gradually reduce with regular use. Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting (without a rotating beater bar), and shedding typically settles within about a month. It is a natural characteristic of quality wool rugs.

No question matches that. Message us and we'll answer it directly.
