Description
Soft, airy and gently faded. This pale blue Oushak runner rug floats three lobed floral medallions in slate blue and blush across a soft blue-grey field, with scattered palmettes and leaf sprays between them. A dusty blush pink border of small blue and sand flowers, with fine taupe guard stripes, frames the length. Hand knotted in wool on a cotton foundation with a low, sheared pile and a hand-tied fringe, it has the calm, washed look of a well-loved vintage piece.
Why hand knotted
Hand knotting is the oldest and most durable way to make a rug, which matters most in a hallway or kitchen where a runner takes daily foot traffic. Each wool knot is tied by hand around a cotton warp, row by row, then beaten down and clipped. There is no latex, no scrim and no backing cloth: the knots are the structure, so the pattern shows on the reverse and the fringe is the warp itself. No glue to dry out, no delamination, and a runner that can be washed, repaired and re-fringed for decades.
Materials and craftsmanship
The pile is hand-spun wool, dyed in small batches and sheared low, which gives the pale field a soft, timeworn variation (abrash) without looking worn. The foundation is cotton warp and weft. Each runner is woven in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, India, then hand clipped, washed, stretched and finished.

Styling and placement
Lay it between light grey or white shaker cabinets with marble counters, brass pulls and pale oak floors. It suits transitional, coastal, French country and modern farmhouse kitchens, and works beautifully in hallways, laundry rooms and bathrooms where a light, quiet runner is wanted.
Choosing your runner size
Leave 10–15 cm (4–6 in) of floor showing on each side of a hallway runner, and 30–45 cm (12–18 in) at each end. In a galley kitchen, a 2.6 ft wide runner suits most aisles; choose 3 ft for wider walkways and 2 ft for narrow halls. Need a length not listed? We knot custom sizes to order.
Care and longevity
Vacuum with suction only, beater bar off, and avoid the fringe. Blot kitchen spills immediately with a clean cloth. Turn the runner end to end every few months so wear stays even, and use a thin rug pad to stop it sliding on hard floors. Professional washing every three to five years keeps it fresh. Allow slight colour variation between batches and a size tolerance of up to 2%.
Frequently asked questions
What makes a rug an Oushak?
Oushak is a weaving tradition from western Anatolia known for large-scale floral and palmette designs and softened, liveable colours.

Questions, Answered
Everything you want to know before you buy
Handmade rugs raise real questions — about wool, shedding, sizing and shipping. Here are ours, answered plainly.
Are your rugs safe for pets and children?
Yes. Our rugs are crafted using natural wool and non-toxic dyes without chemical-backed coatings. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and flame-resistant, making it a great choice for family homes. If a loop is accidentally pulled by a pet, simply trim it carefully with scissors rather than pulling it.
Do I need a rug pad underneath it?
We highly recommend using one. A quality rug pad helps prevent slipping, protects your flooring, adds extra comfort underfoot, and extends the lifespan of your rug by reducing wear from daily foot traffic. It's especially beneficial on hardwood, tile, and other smooth surfaces.
Can I order a custom size or colour?
Yes. Almost everything we make can be woven to your dimensions and palette, including round, runner and oversized pieces. Custom orders take about 4-6 weeks. Send us your measurements and a colour reference to start.
How should I clean and care for my rug?
Vacuum weekly on a low setting. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth — press, don't rub. For anything that has set, use a professional rug cleaner. Avoid soaking the rug, bleach, and steam cleaning.
Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?
Yes, light shedding is normal during the first few weeks. These are loose fibers left from the finishing process and will gradually reduce with regular use. Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting (without a rotating beater bar), and shedding typically settles within about a month. It is a natural characteristic of quality wool rugs.
No question matches that. Message us and we'll answer it directly.
