Description
indigo field, framed by a serrated ivory border. This is a true flat weave —
no pile, no backing, reversible — built from the tribal medallion vocabulary
of southwest Persian weaving. It brings strong colour and pattern to a room
while staying low enough to sit under doors, dining chairs and furniture.
WHY A FLAT WEAVE
A kilim is woven face-to-face on the loom rather than tufted or knotted, so
there is no glue, no latex and no backing cloth. That gives you a thin,
lightweight rug that lies flat, vacuums easily, doesn't trap dust in a deep
pile, and can be flipped over to even out wear. It is the right choice for
high-traffic paths, entryways, kitchens, layering over carpet, and rooms
where a plush rug would feel heavy. It is not a thick underfoot rug — if you
want softness, add a pad.
MATERIALS AND CRAFT
Woven from hand-spun wool on a cotton warp by artisan weavers in Bhadohi,
India, where our family has woven for three generations. Colours are built
block by block on the loom: each motif is a separate area of weft, which is
why the medallion edges step rather than curve. The small irregularities in
the stepped lines and the slight variation in the indigo field are evidence
of hand weaving, not flaws.
SIZES
Available from 3x5 ft (90x150 cm) through 9x12 ft (270x360 cm), plus 3 ft
wide runners. Choose your size from the dropdown. Standard sizes include
3x5, 4x6, 5x8, 6x9, 8x10 and 9x12 ft, and runners at 3x8 and 3x10 ft.
Custom sizes are woven to order — message us with your measurements.
STYLING AND PLACEMENT
The indigo and gold palette anchors neutral, wood-heavy and boho interiors,
and works with mid-century, Southwestern, eclectic and modern farmhouse
rooms. In a living room, a 5x8 sits under a coffee table with the front legs
of the sofa on the rug; an 8x10 lets all furniture sit fully on it. For a
queen bed, use 8x10 to get walking room on three sides. For a six-seat
dining table, choose 8x10 so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. The
3 ft runners suit hallways, galley kitchens and the side of a bed.
GIFTING
A flat weave travels and wraps easily, which makes it a practical
housewarming or wedding gift for someone setting up a first home.
CARE, VARIATION AND LONGEVITY
Vacuum without a beater bar, or use the suction attachment. Blot spills
immediately with a clean cloth and cold water; professional cleaning for
anything set in. Rotate every six months and flip yearly for even wear.
Flat weaves shed far less than tufted or shaggy rugs, though a little loose
fibre in the first weeks is normal. Handmade colour and size tolerance is
about 2 to 3 percent. A thin rug pad is recommended: it stops slipping,
protects the weave and adds cushioning. Cared for, a wool kilim lasts
decades and takes on a softer patina over time.
FAQ
Will it shed?
Very little. There is no cut pile to release fibre, so shedding is minimal
compared with tufted or hand-knotted rugs.
Is it safe with pets and kids?
Yes. There is no latex adhesive or backing cloth, and the low flat surface
has no loops for claws to catch. Wool is naturally stain-resistant.
Is it reversible?
Yes. The pattern appears on both sides, with the reverse slightly softer in
contrast. Flipping it extends the life of the rug.
Does it come with a pad?
No, a pad is not included. We recommend a thin non-slip pad, especially on
hardwood or tile.
Can I get a custom size?
Yes. Custom widths, lengths and runner lengths are woven to order. Message
us with your dimensions for a quote and timeline.
Will the colours match what I see on screen?
Close, but screens vary. The blue is a deep indigo, the medallions a warm
golden mustard, with rust and ivory accents. Ask us for a natural-light
photo before you order if the exact tone matters.

Questions, Answered
Everything you want to know before you buy
Handmade rugs raise real questions — about wool, shedding, sizing and shipping. Here are ours, answered plainly.
Can I order a custom size or colour?
Yes. Almost everything we make can be woven to your dimensions and palette, including round, runner and oversized pieces. Custom orders take about 4-6 weeks. Send us your measurements and a colour reference to start.
Are your rugs safe for pets and children?
Yes. Our rugs are crafted using natural wool and non-toxic dyes without chemical-backed coatings. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and flame-resistant, making it a great choice for family homes. If a loop is accidentally pulled by a pet, simply trim it carefully with scissors rather than pulling it.
Do I need a rug pad underneath it?
We highly recommend using one. A quality rug pad helps prevent slipping, protects your flooring, adds extra comfort underfoot, and extends the lifespan of your rug by reducing wear from daily foot traffic. It's especially beneficial on hardwood, tile, and other smooth surfaces.
How should I clean and care for my rug?
Vacuum weekly on a low setting. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth — press, don't rub. For anything that has set, use a professional rug cleaner. Avoid soaking the rug, bleach, and steam cleaning.
Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?
Yes, light shedding is normal during the first few weeks. These are loose fibers left from the finishing process and will gradually reduce with regular use. Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting (without a rotating beater bar), and shedding typically settles within about a month. It is a natural characteristic of quality wool rugs.
No question matches that. Message us and we'll answer it directly.
