Description
block border. This is a true flatweave — woven on a handloom, flat on
both faces, with no pile and no backing. The two-colour geometry gives
you a strong graphic frame that holds a room together without adding
bulk underfoot.
WHY A FLATWEAVE
A flatweave is woven rather than knotted or tufted, so the rug sits
almost flush with the floor. That makes it the right choice under
doors that clear tightly, under dining chairs that need to slide, and
over existing carpet where a thick pile would look heavy. It is also
reversible — the pattern reads on both sides, so you can flip it to
even out wear and effectively double its usable life. Flatweaves shed
far less than pile rugs and are much easier to shake out or vacuum.
MATERIALS & CRAFTSMANSHIP
Woven in Bhadohi, India, on a traditional pit loom by weavers working
in a family craft that runs three generations deep. The weft is packed
by hand row by row, which is what gives the surface its subtle ribbed
texture and the slight, honest variation you can see across the pale
blue field. The maroon blocks are woven in, not printed or dyed on
top — the colour goes all the way through the yarn. Colours are set
with fade-resistant dyes and the edges finish in a woven selvedge, so
there is no fringe and no glued binding to come loose.
SIZES
Made to order in standard sizes from 3x5 ft (90x150 cm) up to
9x12 ft (270x360 cm), with runners and custom dimensions available.
Choose your size from the dropdown, or message us for anything not
listed — we weave to your measurements at no design fee.
STYLING & PLACEMENT
The pale blue field reads as a soft neutral, so this works in a living
room over light oak or concrete, in a bedroom with the border framing
the foot of the bed, in a dining room where the flat surface lets
chairs move freely, or in an entryway and hallway where low profile
matters. It suits Scandinavian, coastal, mid-century modern, modern
farmhouse and minimalist interiors, and the maroon gives you a warm
anchor point to pull into cushions or art.
Sizing guide: in a living room, go large enough that at least the
front legs of your sofa and chairs sit on the rug — 8x10 ft for a
standard three-seater arrangement. A queen bed suits 8x10 ft placed
under the lower two-thirds of the bed; a king suits 9x12 ft. For
dining, allow roughly 24 inches of rug beyond the table edge on all
sides so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out — a six-seat table
usually needs 8x10 ft.
GIFTING
A calm, two-colour geometric that suits a housewarming, a first
apartment or a wedding registry, since it works with almost any
furniture the recipient already owns.
CARE, VARIATION & LONGEVITY
Vacuum with the beater bar off, or shake it out. Blot spills
immediately with a clean cloth — do not rub. Spot clean with mild soap
and cool water; professional cleaning for anything deep. Rotate every
six months for even wear, and flip it over occasionally since both
sides are usable. A non-slip rug pad is strongly recommended: it stops
the rug travelling, adds cushioning, and protects the weave. Because
this is handwoven, expect small variations in colour depth and a size
tolerance of roughly 1 to 2 percent — these are markers of handloom
work, not defects. Well cared for, a flatweave of this density will
serve comfortably for a decade or more in a normal-traffic room.
FAQ
Will this rug shed?
Very little. It has no pile, so it does not shed the way tufted or
knotted rugs do. You may see a few loose fibres in the first weeks.
Is it reversible?
Yes. Both faces carry the pattern and either side can be used.
Does it come with a rug pad?
No, the pad is sold separately. We recommend one for any hard floor.
Is it suitable for homes with pets or children?
Yes. The flat surface has no loops for claws to catch and it cleans up
easily. Trim, do not pull, any yarn that gets snagged.
How long does made-to-order take?
Weaving typically takes 2 to 3 weeks, plus shipping time to your
country. Larger sizes sit at the longer end of that range.
Can I get a custom size or a different colourway?
Yes. Message us with your dimensions or colours and we will confirm
feasibility, price and timeline before you order.
Will the colours look exactly like the photos?
Very close, though screen calibration varies and handwoven dye lots
shift slightly. Ask us for an additional photo in daylight if you want
to check before ordering.

woven to order at no extra design charge.

Questions, Answered
Everything you want to know before you buy
Handmade rugs raise real questions — about wool, shedding, sizing and shipping. Here are ours, answered plainly.
Can I order a custom size or colour?
Yes. Almost everything we make can be woven to your dimensions and palette, including round, runner and oversized pieces. Custom orders take about 4-6 weeks. Send us your measurements and a colour reference to start.
Are your rugs safe for pets and children?
Yes. Our rugs are crafted using natural wool and non-toxic dyes without chemical-backed coatings. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and flame-resistant, making it a great choice for family homes. If a loop is accidentally pulled by a pet, simply trim it carefully with scissors rather than pulling it.
Do I need a rug pad underneath it?
We highly recommend using one. A quality rug pad helps prevent slipping, protects your flooring, adds extra comfort underfoot, and extends the lifespan of your rug by reducing wear from daily foot traffic. It's especially beneficial on hardwood, tile, and other smooth surfaces.
How should I clean and care for my rug?
Vacuum weekly on a low setting. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth — press, don't rub. For anything that has set, use a professional rug cleaner. Avoid soaking the rug, bleach, and steam cleaning.
Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?
Yes, light shedding is normal during the first few weeks. These are loose fibers left from the finishing process and will gradually reduce with regular use. Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting (without a rotating beater bar), and shedding typically settles within about a month. It is a natural characteristic of quality wool rugs.
No question matches that. Message us and we'll answer it directly.
