Description
charcoal border and thin charcoal dividing lines. This is a weft-faced dhurrie —
woven flat on the loom with no pile, no latex backing and no fringe — so it sits
low, slides cleanly under doors and furniture, and holds its crisp colour blocks
without shedding a pile. It is the rug for a room that needs colour and structure
without bulk.
WHY A FLATWEAVE
A flatweave is woven, not knotted or tufted. There is no pile to crush, flatten
or shed, which is why it works where a thick rug does not: under a dining table
where chairs need to slide, in an entry with a low door swing, in a small room
where a plush rug would eat the space. It is also the lightest construction to
lift, shake out and move.
MATERIALS AND CRAFTSMANSHIP
Woven in wool on a traditional pit loom by weavers in the Bhadohi belt of India,
where dhurrie weaving has been a family trade for generations. Each colour panel
is woven in solid blocks and beaten down by hand so the weft packs tight and even.
The charcoal edge is a hand-whipstitched selvedge, worked around the rug after
weaving — that finish is what keeps a flatweave from splaying at the sides over
time. Colours are yarn-dyed before weaving, not printed or surface-treated.

STYLING AND PLACEMENT
The vertical banding does two useful things: it lengthens a narrow room, and it
gives a neutral scheme one confident line of colour. It suits mid-century modern,
Scandinavian, Japandi, contemporary minimalist and warm-neutral interiors, and it
sits especially well on concrete, pale oak and polished wood floors.
Living room: choose a size that lets at least the front legs of the sofa and
chairs sit on the rug — 8 x 10 ft for a standard three-seat sofa and two chairs,
5 x 8 ft for an apartment layout.
Dining room: allow about 24 in (60 cm) of rug beyond the table on all sides so
chairs stay on the rug when pulled out — 8 x 10 ft for a six-seat table.
Bedroom: 6 x 9 ft runs alongside a queen bed, 9 x 12 ft frames a king with walking
room on three sides. Runners suit hallways, kitchens and the side of a bed.
Mustard, rust, walnut, black metal and cream upholstery all pick up the palette.
CARE, VARIATION AND LONGEVITY
Vacuum with the beater bar off or on a suction-only setting, and avoid running a
vacuum head over the whipstitched edge. Blot spills immediately with a clean cloth
and cold water; professional cleaning for anything set in. Rotate the rug every
six months so light and footfall wear evenly. Flatweaves shed very little compared
with pile rugs, though a small amount of loose fibre in the first weeks is normal.
Because each piece is woven by hand, expect slight variation in size (up to about
2 percent) and small differences in dye tone between batches — that is the mark of
a handwoven rug, not a fault. A quality rug pad is strongly recommended: it stops
a flatweave from creeping on hard floors and meaningfully extends its life.
FAQ
Will it shed?
Very little. There is no pile to shed, so you will only see a small amount of
loose fibre early on, which stops with normal vacuuming.
Is it pet and kid friendly?
Yes. The flat, low surface has nothing for claws to pull into loops, and there is
no pile to crush under play or furniture.
Does it come with a rug pad?
No, a pad is not included. We recommend adding one, especially on concrete, tile
or polished wood, to keep the rug from sliding.
How long does made-to-order take?
Weaving a made-to-order size typically takes a few weeks depending on dimensions,
plus shipping. Message before ordering and we will confirm the current timeline
for your size.
Can I get a custom size or change the colours?
Yes. Custom widths, lengths and runner proportions are woven to order, and the
olive, mustard and ivory blocks can be rewoven in your own palette.
Will the colours match what I see on screen?
Very closely, though screens vary in warmth and brightness. Ask for a natural-light
photo or a yarn shot before ordering if you are matching to existing furniture.
Message us for a custom size, a runner length, or a colour change and we will weave
this design to your room.
Rug Care & Maintenance
Vacuum gently once or twice a week using a brush attachment — avoid rotary brush heads. Do not machine wash. For spills, blot immediately with a dry cloth; never rub. With simple care, your handmade wool rug will stay beautiful for decades.

Questions, Answered
Everything you want to know before you buy
Handmade rugs raise real questions — about wool, shedding, sizing and shipping. Here are ours, answered plainly.
Can I order a custom size or colour?
Yes. Almost everything we make can be woven to your dimensions and palette, including round, runner and oversized pieces. Custom orders take about 4-6 weeks. Send us your measurements and a colour reference to start.
Are your rugs safe for pets and children?
Yes. Our rugs are crafted using natural wool and non-toxic dyes without chemical-backed coatings. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and flame-resistant, making it a great choice for family homes. If a loop is accidentally pulled by a pet, simply trim it carefully with scissors rather than pulling it.
Do I need a rug pad underneath it?
We highly recommend using one. A quality rug pad helps prevent slipping, protects your flooring, adds extra comfort underfoot, and extends the lifespan of your rug by reducing wear from daily foot traffic. It's especially beneficial on hardwood, tile, and other smooth surfaces.
How should I clean and care for my rug?
Vacuum weekly on a low setting. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth — press, don't rub. For anything that has set, use a professional rug cleaner. Avoid soaking the rug, bleach, and steam cleaning.
Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?
Yes, light shedding is normal during the first few weeks. These are loose fibers left from the finishing process and will gradually reduce with regular use. Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting (without a rotating beater bar), and shedding typically settles within about a month. It is a natural characteristic of quality wool rugs.
No question matches that. Message us and we'll answer it directly.
