Description
all-over scatter of small geometric motifs in mustard, terracotta, sage
and indigo. It is a true flatweave — no pile, woven on the loom rather
than knotted or tufted — which makes it light, low-profile and easy to
live with. If you want a neutral floor that still carries colour, this
is the piece that does both.
WHY A FLATWEAVE
Flatweave construction means the pattern is built into the weave itself,
not stitched onto a backing. The result sits almost flush with the floor,
so it clears doors, slides under furniture without bulk, and is far
easier to lift, shake out and move than a pile rug. It has no latex
backing to break down over time, and the low profile makes it a natural
choice for high-traffic rooms, layering over larger rugs, and homes with
pets or crawling toddlers.
MATERIALS & CRAFTSMANSHIP
Woven from wool on a cotton warp, with the fringe formed by the warp
threads themselves rather than sewn on afterwards. The yarn is dyed
before weaving, so colour runs through the fibre instead of sitting on
the surface. Each rug is woven by hand on a traditional loom in the
Bhadohi weaving belt of northern India, where the craft has been passed
down through generations. A rug of this size takes a skilled weaver
several weeks at the loom.
SIZES
Available from 3x5 ft (91x152 cm) up to 9x12 ft (274x366 cm), plus
runners and made-to-order custom sizes. Choose your size from the
dropdown — every size is woven to order, so nothing is cut down from a
larger piece.
STYLING & PLACEMENT
The open ivory ground keeps rooms feeling larger, so it works hard in
small living rooms, bedrooms, home offices and entryways. It suits
Scandinavian, Japandi, modern farmhouse, coastal and warm-minimal
interiors, and the mustard and terracotta accents sit well with walnut,
oak, rattan and leather. Under a queen bed, an 8x10 lets you step onto
wool on three sides; a 5x8 works placed across the lower two-thirds of
the bed. For a six-seat dining table, choose 8x10 so chairs stay on the
rug when pulled out. In a living room, aim for at least the front legs
of your sofa and chairs to sit on the rug.
GIFTING
Because the palette is neutral and the pattern is quiet, it is a safe
piece to give without knowing someone's exact décor — a common choice
for housewarmings, weddings and first-apartment gifts.
CARE, VARIATION & LONGEVITY
Vacuum with suction only — avoid a rotating beater bar, which can catch
a flatweave. Blot spills immediately with a clean cloth and cold water;
spot clean as needed and use a professional cleaner for a full wash.
Rotate the rug twice a year for even wear. Flatweaves shed very little
compared with pile rugs. Because each piece is handwoven, expect small
variations in size (usually within 1-2%), motif placement and dye
saturation — this is the signature of handwoven work, not a flaw. A thin
non-slip pad is strongly recommended: it stops sliding, adds cushioning
and meaningfully extends the life of the rug. Well cared for, a wool
flatweave of this quality lasts decades.
FAQ
Will it shed? Very little. Flatweaves have no cut pile, so shedding is
minimal compared with tufted or knotted rugs.
Is it pet and child friendly? Yes. The flat surface has no loops for
claws to catch, it is easy to lift and clean, and there is no latex
backing to crumble.
Does it come with a rug pad? No, a pad is not included, but we recommend
adding a thin non-slip pad, especially on hardwood or tile.
Is it reversible? The weave is flatwoven throughout; the reverse side
shows the same pattern in a softer, muted form and can be used in a
pinch, though the front is the finished face.
How long does made-to-order take? Weaving and finishing typically take
2-4 weeks depending on size, plus shipping time.
Can I get a custom size? Yes. Message us with your exact dimensions and
we will quote a made-to-measure piece.
Will the colours match my screen? Very closely, but screens vary. If
exact colour matters for a project, message us and we can send
additional daylight photos before you order.
Need a size that is not listed? Send us a message with your measurements
and we will weave it to order.
Rug Care & Maintenance
Vacuum gently once or twice a week using a brush attachment — avoid rotary brush heads. Do not machine wash. For spills, blot immediately with a dry cloth; never rub. With simple care, your handmade wool rug will stay beautiful for decades.

Questions, Answered
Everything you want to know before you buy
Handmade rugs raise real questions — about wool, shedding, sizing and shipping. Here are ours, answered plainly.
Can I order a custom size or colour?
Yes. Almost everything we make can be woven to your dimensions and palette, including round, runner and oversized pieces. Custom orders take about 4-6 weeks. Send us your measurements and a colour reference to start.
Are your rugs safe for pets and children?
Yes. Our rugs are crafted using natural wool and non-toxic dyes without chemical-backed coatings. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and flame-resistant, making it a great choice for family homes. If a loop is accidentally pulled by a pet, simply trim it carefully with scissors rather than pulling it.
Do I need a rug pad underneath it?
We highly recommend using one. A quality rug pad helps prevent slipping, protects your flooring, adds extra comfort underfoot, and extends the lifespan of your rug by reducing wear from daily foot traffic. It's especially beneficial on hardwood, tile, and other smooth surfaces.
How should I clean and care for my rug?
Vacuum weekly on a low setting. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth — press, don't rub. For anything that has set, use a professional rug cleaner. Avoid soaking the rug, bleach, and steam cleaning.
Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?
Yes, light shedding is normal during the first few weeks. These are loose fibers left from the finishing process and will gradually reduce with regular use. Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting (without a rotating beater bar), and shedding typically settles within about a month. It is a natural characteristic of quality wool rugs.
No question matches that. Message us and we'll answer it directly.
