Description
Handwoven wool flatweave kilim rug with a column of seven diamonds in rust,
charcoal and olive on a natural ivory ground. Woven flat on the loom — no pile,
no backing, no glue — so it lies low, sits flush under doors and furniture, and
keeps its graphic pattern sharp from every angle. If you want a rug that reads as
a design statement without adding bulk to the room, this is it.

WHY A FLATWEAVE
A flatweave has no pile to crush, flatten or shade, so the pattern you see today
is the pattern you see in five years. It is the lightest and lowest-profile
handmade rug format, which makes it the practical choice for entryways, under
dining chairs, in front of kitchen sinks, and in rooms with doors that clear the
floor by very little. It is also the easiest handmade rug to lift, shake out and
move between rooms.

MATERIALS & CRAFTSMANSHIP
Woven in Bhadohi, north India, on traditional pit and frame looms — the same
weaving belt our family has worked in for three generations. The face is wool,
chosen for its natural resilience and the dry, matte way it holds colour. Yarns
are dyed in small batches, which is why the ivory ground carries a faint slub and
the olive and rust read slightly differently across the length of the rug. Each
diamond is built weft by weft by hand; a single rug takes a weaver days of
continuous work at the loom. There is no printing, no latex, no machine backing
anywhere in this piece.

STYLING & PLACEMENT
The ivory ground keeps the rug quiet in a room while the diamond column does the
work, so it sits comfortably in Scandinavian, mid-century modern, desert
modern, boho and warm-minimal interiors. Terracotta and boucle upholstery,
light oak and rattan are its natural partners.
· Living room — 5 x 8 ft with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug;
8 x 10 ft if you want all legs on.
· Bedroom — 5 x 8 ft laid across the lower two-thirds of a queen bed, or
6 x 9 ft for a king. A 2.5 x 8 ft runner on each side is the low-profile
alternative.
· Dining — for a six-seat table, 8 x 10 ft keeps chairs on the rug when pulled
out. Flatweaves are the right call here because chair legs glide instead of
catching.
· Entryway and hallway — runners in the 2.5 ft widths, low enough to clear a
swinging door.

GIFTING
A calm, pattern-forward rug is one of the few housewarming gifts that works
without knowing someone's full colour scheme — the ivory base does the
accommodating. Gift wrapping is not offered, but we can leave the invoice out of
the parcel on request.

CARE, VARIATION & LONGEVITY
Vacuum with the beater bar off or on suction only, in the direction of the weave.
Rotate every six months so light and foot traffic land evenly. Spot clean with
cold water and a mild wool-safe detergent, blotting rather than rubbing; for a
full clean, use a professional rug cleaner. Wool flatweaves shed very little
compared with pile rugs, and any loose fibre settles within the first few weeks.
Because this is handwoven, expect a size tolerance of roughly 1–2% and minor
variation in dye depth and diamond alignment — those are marks of loom work, not
faults. A non-slip rug pad is strongly recommended: flatweaves are light and will
travel on hard floors without one, and a pad also adds cushioning and extends the
life of the weave. Cared for this way, a wool flatweave comfortably lasts a
decade or more of everyday use.

FAQ
Will it shed?
Very little. Flatweaves have no cut pile, so shedding is minimal and short-lived
compared with a tufted or knotted rug.

Is it safe with pets and kids?
Yes. There is no glue or latex in the construction, and the flat surface means no
loops for claws to catch. Wool is naturally flame-resistant and stain-resistant.

Does it come with a rug pad?
No — a pad is not included. We recommend buying a non-slip felt-and-rubber pad
cut to your size, especially on wood, tile or polished concrete.

Can I get a custom size or a different colourway?
Yes. Custom sizes, runners, rounds and colour changes are all possible on the
loom. Message us with your measurement and we will confirm price and timeline.

How long does made-to-order take?
Weaving time depends on size, and we confirm a specific date before you order.
Message us with the size you need for a current estimate.

Will the colours match what I see on screen?
They are close, but screens vary. The ivory is a natural undyed cream rather than
a bright white, and the rust sits on the earthy side of terracotta. Ask for a
daylight photo before ordering if colour accuracy is critical.

Is it reversible?
The reverse shows the same diamond structure in a softer, less defined form.
Treat the front as the display face.

Message us for a custom size, a different colourway, or a runner to match.

Questions, Answered

Everything you want to know before you buy

Handmade rugs raise real questions — about wool, shedding, sizing and shipping. Here are ours, answered plainly.

Can I order a custom size or colour?
Are your rugs safe for pets and children?
Do I need a rug pad underneath it?
How should I clean and care for my rug?
Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?
Can I order a custom size or colour?

Yes. Almost everything we make can be woven to your dimensions and palette, including round, runner and oversized pieces. Custom orders take about 4-6 weeks. Send us your measurements and a colour reference to start.

Are your rugs safe for pets and children?

Yes. Our rugs are crafted using natural wool and non-toxic dyes without chemical-backed coatings. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and flame-resistant, making it a great choice for family homes. If a loop is accidentally pulled by a pet, simply trim it carefully with scissors rather than pulling it.

Do I need a rug pad underneath it?

We highly recommend using one. A quality rug pad helps prevent slipping, protects your flooring, adds extra comfort underfoot, and extends the lifespan of your rug by reducing wear from daily foot traffic. It's especially beneficial on hardwood, tile, and other smooth surfaces.

How should I clean and care for my rug?

Vacuum weekly on a low setting. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth — press, don't rub. For anything that has set, use a professional rug cleaner. Avoid soaking the rug, bleach, and steam cleaning.

Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?

Yes, light shedding is normal during the first few weeks. These are loose fibers left from the finishing process and will gradually reduce with regular use. Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting (without a rotating beater bar), and shedding typically settles within about a month. It is a natural characteristic of quality wool rugs.

No question matches that. Message us and we'll answer it directly.
