Description
Handwoven wool kilim rug in ivory, rust and denim blue, woven flat on a traditional
pit loom with a chevron banded field and a diamond border. This is a true flatweave
— no pile, no backing, no glue — so it sits low, lies flat under doors and furniture,
and can be turned over and used from either side. If you want colour and pattern
without bulk, this is the piece.

WHY A FLATWEAVE
Flatweave (kilim / dhurrie) construction means the pattern is built by the weft
threads themselves rather than knotted or glued into a base. The result is a thin,
lightweight, reversible rug that suits layering, high-traffic paths, entryways and
rooms where a thick pile would feel heavy. It's easy to lift, easy to shake out, and
easy to move between rooms.

MATERIALS & CRAFTSMANSHIP
Woven from wool on a cotton warp, with the warp ends hand-knotted into cotton tassel
fringe at both ends. Colours are yarn-dyed before weaving, which is why the chevrons
hold clean edges and the charcoal outline stripes stay crisp. Each rug is woven by
hand by artisan weavers in India working in a family flatweave tradition — a mid-size
piece takes several days on the loom. No printing, no machine production.

STYLING & PLACEMENT
The ivory ground keeps the room light while the rust, blue and gold bands carry the
colour, so it works in boho, southwestern, farmhouse, mid-century and Scandi-neutral
rooms. In a living room, choose a size that lets at least the front legs of your sofa
and chairs sit on the rug — 5x8 ft for a compact seating group, 8x10 ft for a full
sofa-plus-chairs layout. For a queen bed, 8x10 ft placed under the lower two-thirds
gives soft footing on three sides; 6x9 ft works for a full/double. For dining, allow
24 in beyond the table edge on all sides so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out —
a 6-seat table generally needs 8x10 ft. Runners suit hallways, kitchen galleys and
bedside strips.

GIFTING
A handwoven flatweave is an easy piece to give — it reads as considered rather than
generic, and the neutral ivory ground means it lands in most homes. Housewarmings,
weddings and first apartments are the usual reasons buyers order this one.

CARE, VARIATION & LONGEVITY
Vacuum on low suction without a beater bar, or shake the rug out. Blot spills
immediately with a clean cloth and cold water; spot clean as needed and use a
professional rug cleaner for a full clean. Wool flatweaves shed very little compared
to pile rugs, though light initial fluff is normal. Because each rug is handwoven,
expect minor variation in size (up to about 2%) and small differences in colour depth
between pieces — these are marks of hand production, not faults. A non-slip pad is
strongly recommended: a flatweave is light and will slide or curl at the corners
without one. With a pad and rotation twice a year, expect many years of daily use.

FAQ
Will it shed? Very little. Wool flatweaves have no cut pile, so shedding is minimal
and settles after the first weeks.
Is it reversible? Yes. The construction is flat and double-sided, though the reverse
reads slightly softer in colour.
Does it come with a rug pad? No — a pad is sold separately and we recommend adding
one, since flatweaves slide on hard floors.
Is it pet and kid friendly? Yes. The low flat surface handles traffic well and there's
no pile for claws to catch, but pull, don't cut, any snagged thread.
Can I order a custom size? Yes — custom sizes and runner lengths are woven to order.
Message with your dimensions for a quote and timeline.
Will the colours match my screen? Very closely, but screens vary in warmth. Message
for extra photos in natural light if colour accuracy is critical to your project.

Questions, Answered

Everything you want to know before you buy

Handmade rugs raise real questions — about wool, shedding, sizing and shipping. Here are ours, answered plainly.

Can I order a custom size or colour?
Are your rugs safe for pets and children?
Do I need a rug pad underneath it?
How should I clean and care for my rug?
Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?
Can I order a custom size or colour?

Yes. Almost everything we make can be woven to your dimensions and palette, including round, runner and oversized pieces. Custom orders take about 4-6 weeks. Send us your measurements and a colour reference to start.

Are your rugs safe for pets and children?

Yes. Our rugs are crafted using natural wool and non-toxic dyes without chemical-backed coatings. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and flame-resistant, making it a great choice for family homes. If a loop is accidentally pulled by a pet, simply trim it carefully with scissors rather than pulling it.

Do I need a rug pad underneath it?

We highly recommend using one. A quality rug pad helps prevent slipping, protects your flooring, adds extra comfort underfoot, and extends the lifespan of your rug by reducing wear from daily foot traffic. It's especially beneficial on hardwood, tile, and other smooth surfaces.

How should I clean and care for my rug?

Vacuum weekly on a low setting. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth — press, don't rub. For anything that has set, use a professional rug cleaner. Avoid soaking the rug, bleach, and steam cleaning.

Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?

Yes, light shedding is normal during the first few weeks. These are loose fibers left from the finishing process and will gradually reduce with regular use. Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting (without a rotating beater bar), and shedding typically settles within about a month. It is a natural characteristic of quality wool rugs.

No question matches that. Message us and we'll answer it directly.
