Woven in cotton on a traditional pit loom in Bhadohi, the weaving belt of Uttar
Pradesh, India, where our family has worked at the loom for three generations.
Each colour block is built weft by weft — the weaver counts the picks and changes
the yarn by hand at every colour boundary, which is why the check lines land
square across the whole field. The horizontal ribbing you can see in the weave is
the weft structure itself, not a printed or applied texture. A rug of this size
takes an experienced weaver several days at the loom. Edges are finished with a
woven selvedge; there is no fringe and no latex backing.

evenly. A thin non-slip pad is recommended — flatweaves have no weight of pile to
hold them down and will creep on a hard floor without one.

Because this is handmade, expect small variation: colour tone can shift slightly
between dye lots, and finished dimensions may vary by up to 2–3% from the size
ordered. Slight ridging or a soft fold line from rolling will relax within a week

FAQ
Will it shed?
No. There is no pile, so there is nothing to shed. You may see a few loose fibre
ends in the first week of vacuuming, which is normal and stops quickly.

Is it pet and kid friendly?
Yes, and it's one of the better choices for both. Claws don't snag on a flat
surface the way they do on loop pile, and the low profile means spills sit on the
surface where you can blot them rather than sinking into a pile.

Does it come with a rug pad?
No, a pad is not included. We strongly recommend adding a thin non-slip pad,
especially on wood, tile or laminate.

How long does a made-to-order rug take?
