Description
Dark, dramatic and beautifully balanced. This charcoal Oushak rug scatters ivory and camel palmettes and vines across a deep charcoal-black field, framed by a wide camel border of ivory florals with a fine black outer edge. Hand knotted in wool on a cotton foundation and finished with a hand-tied fringe, it brings a moody, modern-traditional look to living rooms and studies.
Why hand knotted
Hand knotting is the oldest and most durable way to make a rug. Each wool knot is tied by hand around a cotton warp, row by row, then beaten down and clipped. There is no latex, no scrim and no backing cloth: the knots are the structure, so the pattern shows on the reverse and the fringe is the warp itself. That means no glue to dry out, no delamination, and a rug that can be washed, repaired and re-fringed for decades.
Materials and craftsmanship
The pile is hand-spun wool, dyed in small batches, which gives gentle tonal variation (abrash) across the charcoal field. The foundation is cotton warp and weft. Each rug is woven in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, India, then hand clipped, washed, stretched and finished.

Styling and placement
The dark field grounds light oak floors and pairs perfectly with cognac leather, cream boucle, black marble and brass. It suits modern traditional, dark academia, transitional and moody contemporary interiors, and the darker ground is practical for busy family rooms.
For a three-seat sofa layout, 8 x 10 ft lets the front legs of all seating sit on the rug. For a six-seat dining table, choose 8 x 10 ft so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out.
Care and longevity
Vacuum with suction only, beater bar off, and avoid the fringe. Blot spills immediately. Professional washing every three to five years and rotating twice a year keep wear and sun exposure even. Allow slight colour variation between batches and a size tolerance of up to 2%.

Questions, Answered
Everything you want to know before you buy
Handmade rugs raise real questions — about wool, shedding, sizing and shipping. Here are ours, answered plainly.
Are your rugs safe for pets and children?
Yes. Our rugs are crafted using natural wool and non-toxic dyes without chemical-backed coatings. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and flame-resistant, making it a great choice for family homes. If a loop is accidentally pulled by a pet, simply trim it carefully with scissors rather than pulling it.
Do I need a rug pad underneath it?
We highly recommend using one. A quality rug pad helps prevent slipping, protects your flooring, adds extra comfort underfoot, and extends the lifespan of your rug by reducing wear from daily foot traffic. It's especially beneficial on hardwood, tile, and other smooth surfaces.
Can I order a custom size or colour?
Yes. Almost everything we make can be woven to your dimensions and palette, including round, runner and oversized pieces. Custom orders take about 4-6 weeks. Send us your measurements and a colour reference to start.
How should I clean and care for my rug?
Vacuum weekly on a low setting. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth — press, don't rub. For anything that has set, use a professional rug cleaner. Avoid soaking the rug, bleach, and steam cleaning.
Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?
Yes, light shedding is normal during the first few weeks. These are loose fibers left from the finishing process and will gradually reduce with regular use. Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting (without a rotating beater bar), and shedding typically settles within about a month. It is a natural characteristic of quality wool rugs.
No question matches that. Message us and we'll answer it directly.
