Description
This is a hand-woven wool area rug in ivory, built with chunky low-twist wool
worked into raised bobble clusters over a flat woven ground. The texture is
structural — it is woven into the rug, not glued or printed on — so the surface
holds its dimension underfoot and reads beautifully in natural light. If you
want a neutral rug that still gives a room something to look at, this is it.
WHY HAND WOVEN
Hand weaving means the wool face and the ground are formed together on the loom,
so there is no latex layer between them. That matters for three reasons: the rug
stays breathable, it does not stiffen or crumble with age the way glued backings
can, and it lies flat without off-gassing. A hand-woven textured rug like this
gives you real wool density and a sculptural surface at a far more accessible
price than a hand-knotted piece, while lasting substantially longer than a
machine-made lookalike.
MATERIALS & CRAFTSMANSHIP
Face yarn is chunky, low-twist wool, chosen for its natural loft and matte
finish. The woven ground is natural cotton fibre. The wool is left in its
undyed-neutral ivory tone, so the colour comes from the fleece itself rather
than heavy pigment — this is why the surface reads warm rather than stark white.
Every rug is woven by hand by artisan weavers in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, a
weaving region with a documented tradition going back generations. A single
mid-size piece takes a skilled weaver several weeks on the loom. Edges are
finished with a wrapped wool selvedge on all four sides — no tape, no fringe.

STYLING & PLACEMENT
This rug was made for rooms where the palette is quiet and the texture does the
work: Scandinavian, Japandi, coastal, modern organic, minimalist, and warm
contemporary interiors. It sits well against oak, rattan, linen, black metal
and pale plaster walls.
Living room — 8 x 10 ft lets a three-seat sofa and both accent chairs sit with
front legs on the rug. 9 x 12 ft floats the full seating group.
Under a queen bed — 8 x 10 ft, set two-thirds under the frame, leaves walking
room on both sides and at the foot.
Under a king bed — 9 x 12 ft.
Six-seat dining table — 8 x 10 ft minimum, so chairs stay on the rug when
pulled out.
Hallway or galley kitchen — the 2.5 ft runners.
Nursery or reading corner — 5 x 8 ft.
GIFTING
It is a common housewarming and first-home gift for people who want something
lasting rather than decorative. Neutral enough that you do not need to know the
recipient's colour scheme.
CARE, VARIATION & LONGEVITY
Vacuum with the beater bar off or on a suction-only setting — a rotating brush
will pull at the raised loops. Blot spills immediately with a clean white cloth;
do not rub. Spot clean with cool water and a wool-safe detergent. Professional
cleaning once every 12–18 months for high-traffic placement. Rotate the rug
every six months for even wear. New wool sheds for the first 4–8 weeks, which is
normal and settles with regular vacuuming. Because each piece is woven by hand,
expect minor variation in tone and a size tolerance of roughly 2–3%. A quality
rug pad is strongly recommended — it prevents slipping, adds cushioning and can
noticeably extend the life of the rug. With reasonable care, a wool rug of this
construction lasts well over a decade.
FAQ
Will it shed?
Yes, lightly, for the first several weeks. All natural wool does. Regular
vacuuming without a beater bar resolves it.
Is it pet-friendly?
Wool is durable and naturally soil-resistant, but the raised loop texture can
catch claws. Best in low-to-moderate pet traffic, and trim rather than pull any
snagged loop.
Does it come with a rug pad?
No — the pad is sold separately. We recommend a felt-and-rubber pad sized about
2 inches smaller than the rug on each side.
How long does made-to-order take?
Standard sizes ship within 3–5 business days. Custom sizes are woven to order
and typically take 3–5 weeks before dispatch.
Can I request a custom size or a different tone?
Yes. Send your measurements and we will quote. Custom colourways in the same
weave are possible on larger sizes.
Will the colour match what I see on screen?
Very closely, but screen calibration varies and this is an undyed natural ivory,
so it can read warmer in person than on a cool-toned display. Ask for a real-
light photo before ordering if the exact tone is critical.

Questions, Answered
Everything you want to know before you buy
Handmade rugs raise real questions — about wool, shedding, sizing and shipping. Here are ours, answered plainly.
Can I order a custom size or colour?
Yes. Almost everything we make can be woven to your dimensions and palette, including round, runner and oversized pieces. Custom orders take about 4-6 weeks. Send us your measurements and a colour reference to start.
Are your rugs safe for pets and children?
Yes. Our rugs are crafted using natural wool and non-toxic dyes without chemical-backed coatings. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and flame-resistant, making it a great choice for family homes. If a loop is accidentally pulled by a pet, simply trim it carefully with scissors rather than pulling it.
Do I need a rug pad underneath it?
We highly recommend using one. A quality rug pad helps prevent slipping, protects your flooring, adds extra comfort underfoot, and extends the lifespan of your rug by reducing wear from daily foot traffic. It's especially beneficial on hardwood, tile, and other smooth surfaces.
How should I clean and care for my rug?
Vacuum weekly on a low setting. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth — press, don't rub. For anything that has set, use a professional rug cleaner. Avoid soaking the rug, bleach, and steam cleaning.
Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?
Yes, light shedding is normal during the first few weeks. These are loose fibers left from the finishing process and will gradually reduce with regular use. Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting (without a rotating beater bar), and shedding typically settles within about a month. It is a natural characteristic of quality wool rugs.
No question matches that. Message us and we'll answer it directly.
