Description
Striped wool flatweave rug, handwoven as a traditional dhurrie on a pit loom
in Bhadohi, India. Bands of dusty blue, terracotta rust, sage green and
charcoal run across a soft ivory ground, finished with hand-twisted cotton
fringe at both ends. It sits almost flush to the floor, which makes it one of
the easiest rugs to live with under doors, chairs and dining tables.

WHY A FLATWEAVE
A flatweave has no pile. The colour is built directly into the weave, so the
face is low-profile, lightweight and reversible — you can flip it when one
side sees more sun or more foot traffic. There is nothing to crush or flatten
underfoot, which is why flatweaves hold their look in hallways, entryways and
under dining chairs far better than a plush rug. It is also the most practical
choice if you have a door that clears the floor by only a fraction, or a chair
you want to slide rather than lift.

MATERIALS & CRAFTSMANSHIP
Handspun wool weft woven over a cotton warp. Each colour band is laid in by
hand, one weft pass at a time, and the small dash accents inside the stripes
are woven in — not printed or embroidered on. The yarn is dyed in small
batches, so tone varies slightly between dye lots, which is what gives a
handwoven rug its depth. The fringe is not sewn on: it is the cotton warp
itself, knotted off by hand at both ends. A rug this size takes a weaver
several days at the loom.

SIZES
Made to order in 3x5 ft (90x150 cm) through 9x12 ft (275x365 cm), with runner
widths available up to 10 ft long. Select your size from the dropdown, or
message us for a size that is not listed.

STYLING & PLACEMENT
The ivory ground keeps the palette calm while the rust and blue give it enough
colour to anchor a neutral room. It works in modern farmhouse, Scandinavian,
coastal and transitional interiors, and it is a strong choice for a room where
you want pattern without a busy medallion.
- Living room — go large enough that at least the front legs of your sofa and
chairs sit on the rug. 8x10 ft suits most standard living rooms.
- Bedroom — 8x10 ft under a queen bed leaves walking room on three sides;
9x12 ft for a king.
- Dining room — a 6-seat table needs 8x10 ft so chairs stay on the rug when
pulled out. Flatweaves are ideal here because chairs glide.
- Entryway and hallway — the low profile clears most doors without binding.

GIFTING
A flatweave in this palette works as a housewarming or wedding gift when you
know the room but not the exact taste — the ivory base reads neutral, and it
folds down small enough to ship and wrap easily.

CARE, VARIATION & LONGEVITY
Vacuum with the beater bar off or on a suction-only setting. Blot spills
immediately with a clean cloth and cold water; do not rub. Professional
cleaning once a year keeps the ivory bright. Wool sheds very little in a
flatweave compared to a pile rug, though you may see light loose fibre in the
first few weeks. Handwoven pieces carry a size tolerance of roughly 1–2% and
slight variation in stripe width and dye tone — these are marks of hand
production, not defects. A rug pad is strongly recommended: it stops slipping,
adds cushion, and meaningfully extends the life of a flatweave. With a pad and
regular rotation, expect 10–15 years of everyday use.

FAQ
Will it shed?
Very little. Flatweaves have no cut pile, so shedding is minimal — expect only
light loose fibre for the first few weeks of use.

Is it safe with pets and kids?
Yes. There is no pile for claws to catch and no latex adhesive in the
construction. Pull any snagged loop back through with a crochet hook rather
than cutting it.

Does it come with a rug pad?
No, the pad is sold separately. We recommend a felt-and-rubber pad cut about
2 inches smaller than the rug on each side.

Can I order a custom size?
Yes. Message us with your dimensions and we will quote it. Custom sizes are
woven to order.

How long does made-to-order take?
Weaving plus finishing typically takes 2–4 weeks depending on size, and
shipping time is shown at checkout.

Will the colours match what I see on screen?
They are close, but screens vary in brightness and warmth. Message us and we
will send additional daylight photos of the actual batch before you order.

Message us for a custom size, a different colourway, or extra photos — we
weave to order and are happy to make it fit your room.
Rug Care & Maintenance

Vacuum gently once or twice a week using a brush attachment — avoid rotary brush heads. Do not machine wash. For spills, blot immediately with a dry cloth; never rub. With simple care, your handmade wool rug will stay beautiful for decades.

Questions, Answered

Everything you want to know before you buy

Handmade rugs raise real questions — about wool, shedding, sizing and shipping. Here are ours, answered plainly.

Can I order a custom size or colour?
Are your rugs safe for pets and children?
Do I need a rug pad underneath it?
How should I clean and care for my rug?
Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?
Can I order a custom size or colour?

Yes. Almost everything we make can be woven to your dimensions and palette, including round, runner and oversized pieces. Custom orders take about 4-6 weeks. Send us your measurements and a colour reference to start.

Are your rugs safe for pets and children?

Yes. Our rugs are crafted using natural wool and non-toxic dyes without chemical-backed coatings. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and flame-resistant, making it a great choice for family homes. If a loop is accidentally pulled by a pet, simply trim it carefully with scissors rather than pulling it.

Do I need a rug pad underneath it?

We highly recommend using one. A quality rug pad helps prevent slipping, protects your flooring, adds extra comfort underfoot, and extends the lifespan of your rug by reducing wear from daily foot traffic. It's especially beneficial on hardwood, tile, and other smooth surfaces.

How should I clean and care for my rug?

Vacuum weekly on a low setting. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth — press, don't rub. For anything that has set, use a professional rug cleaner. Avoid soaking the rug, bleach, and steam cleaning.

Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?

Yes, light shedding is normal during the first few weeks. These are loose fibers left from the finishing process and will gradually reduce with regular use. Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting (without a rotating beater bar), and shedding typically settles within about a month. It is a natural characteristic of quality wool rugs.

No question matches that. Message us and we'll answer it directly.
