Description
A whole garden, framed panel by panel. This garden panel rug sets sixteen hand-drawn compartments in a grid: slender cypress trees on ivory, weeping willows on sage, and urns of blossoms on terracotta and lavender blue, all held together by a soft sage lattice and a deep lavender-blue border. Hand knotted in wool on a cotton foundation and finished with a hand-tied fringe, it brings the calm of a Persian walled garden into everyday rooms.
Why hand knotted
Hand knotting is the oldest and most durable way to make a rug. Each wool knot is tied by hand around a cotton warp, row by row, then beaten down and clipped. There is no latex, no scrim and no backing cloth: the knots are the structure, so the pattern shows on the reverse and the fringe is the warp itself. That means no glue to dry out, no delamination, and a rug that can be washed, repaired and re-fringed for decades.
Materials and craftsmanship
The pile is hand-spun wool, dyed in small batches, which gives each panel a gentle tonal variation (abrash) so the terracotta, sage and blue fields look painted rather than printed. The foundation is cotton warp and weft. Each rug is woven in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, India, then hand clipped, washed, stretched and finished.

Styling and placement
Pair it with warm wood, linen upholstery and terracotta or olive cushions for a collected, gallery-like feel. It suits eclectic, English country, modern traditional and boho interiors, and works well in living rooms, dining rooms, studies and bedrooms. Because the design is a balanced grid, it reads well from every side of the room.
For a three-seat sofa layout, 8 x 10 ft lets the front legs of all seating sit on the rug. A queen bed wants 8 x 10 ft; a king bed wants 9 x 12 ft. Under a six-seat dining table, choose 8 x 10 ft or larger.
Care and longevity
Vacuum with suction only, beater bar off, and avoid the fringe. Blot spills immediately. Professional washing every three to five years and rotating twice a year keep wear and sun exposure even. Allow slight colour variation between batches and a size tolerance of up to 2%.
Frequently asked questions
What is a garden panel rug?
Garden panel, or kheshti, rugs come from the Persian weaving tradition. The field is divided into tiles, each holding a tree, plant or vase, to represent a walled paradise garden seen from above.
How long does it take to make?
10 to 15 days from order, as each rug is knotted to order. Shipping is added on top.
Can I order a custom size or colour?
Yes. Message us with your room dimensions or colour ideas and we will send a quote and colour layout.
Rug Care & Maintenance
Vacuum gently once or twice a week using a brush attachment — avoid rotary brush heads. Do not machine wash. For spills, blot immediately with a dry cloth; never rub. With simple care, your handmade wool rug will stay beautiful for decades.

Questions, Answered
Everything you want to know before you buy
Handmade rugs raise real questions — about wool, shedding, sizing and shipping. Here are ours, answered plainly.
Are your rugs safe for pets and children?
Yes. Our rugs are crafted using natural wool and non-toxic dyes without chemical-backed coatings. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and flame-resistant, making it a great choice for family homes. If a loop is accidentally pulled by a pet, simply trim it carefully with scissors rather than pulling it.
Do I need a rug pad underneath it?
We highly recommend using one. A quality rug pad helps prevent slipping, protects your flooring, adds extra comfort underfoot, and extends the lifespan of your rug by reducing wear from daily foot traffic. It's especially beneficial on hardwood, tile, and other smooth surfaces.
Can I order a custom size or colour?
Yes. Almost everything we make can be woven to your dimensions and palette, including round, runner and oversized pieces. Custom orders take about 4-6 weeks. Send us your measurements and a colour reference to start.
How should I clean and care for my rug?
Vacuum weekly on a low setting. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth — press, don't rub. For anything that has set, use a professional rug cleaner. Avoid soaking the rug, bleach, and steam cleaning.
Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?
Yes, light shedding is normal during the first few weeks. These are loose fibers left from the finishing process and will gradually reduce with regular use. Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting (without a rotating beater bar), and shedding typically settles within about a month. It is a natural characteristic of quality wool rugs.
No question matches that. Message us and we'll answer it directly.
