Description
A hand woven wool area rug built entirely from texture. Row after row of
tightly rolled wool loops give the surface a dense, nubby, almost pebbled
face in undyed ivory and oatmeal, with no dye and no printed pattern
anywhere on it. If you want a neutral rug that still has something to look
at, this is the one — the interest comes from the weave itself.
WHY HAND WOVEN
Each row is worked on the loom by hand, which is what creates the raised
loop structure you can see in the close-up photo. A hand woven loop weave
sits low, holds its shape, and wears evenly — the loops compress and spring
back rather than crushing flat the way a long cut pile does. It's a
practical construction for rooms that get used: living rooms, bedrooms,
under a dining table. This rug is hand woven, not hand knotted and not
hand tufted, and we don't describe it as anything else.
MATERIALS & CRAFTSMANSHIP
Woven from thick, low-twist wool yarn in its natural undyed state. The soft
flecks of taupe and grey-brown you can see are the natural variation in the
fleece, not a dye effect — no two batches read exactly the same, which is
part of the point. Wool is naturally resilient, flame-retardant and
soil-resistant, and it holds acoustic softness in a room far better than
a synthetic fibre. Woven in Bhadohi, India, by weavers working in a
generations-old loom tradition. A large size takes weeks on the loom.

STYLING & PLACEMENT
Neutral texture is the easiest thing in the world to build a room around.
It works in Scandinavian, Japandi, coastal, modern farmhouse, wabi-sabi and
warm-minimalist interiors, and it's a good partner for oak, cane, linen,
plaster walls and black metal.
- Living room: choose a size that lets at least the front legs of the sofa
and chairs sit on the rug. 8x10 ft suits most standard living rooms;
9x12 ft if you want all furniture legs on.
- Bedroom: 8x10 ft under a queen bed gives roughly 24 in of rug on each
side and at the foot. Go 9x12 ft for a king.
- Dining: allow 24 in beyond the table edge on all sides so chairs stay on
the rug when pulled out — a 6-seat table usually needs 8x10 ft.
- Hallways, kitchens and entry runs: use the runner sizes.
GIFTING
It's a genuinely good housewarming or wedding gift for someone who has
just moved and is still building the room around the floor — neutral enough
that it won't clash with anything they own.
CARE, VARIATION & LONGEVITY
Vacuum with the beater bar OFF or on a low setting, or use a suction-only
attachment — a rotating brush can catch and pull the loops. Blot spills
immediately with a clean white cloth; never rub, and never soak. Spot clean
with cool water and mild wool detergent, and use a professional wool cleaner
for a full clean. Light shedding is normal in the first few weeks with any
natural wool pile and settles with regular vacuuming. Because this is hand
woven from undyed yarn, expect small variation in colour and up to about a
2% variation in finished dimensions — this is a handmade characteristic,
not a fault. A quality rug pad is recommended: it stops slipping, protects
the weave and adds years of life. Cared for properly, a wool rug of this
construction lasts decades.
FAQ
Will it shed?
Lightly, and mostly in the first few weeks. Vacuum on low suction and it
settles down. It sheds far less than a long cut pile.
Is it pet-friendly?
Wool handles pet traffic well, but the loops can be snagged by claws. If
you have a cat that scratches or a dog with untrimmed nails, a cut-pile
rug is the safer choice.
Is it soft or scratchy underfoot?
It's soft — this is wool, not jute or sisal. It has a chunky, textured feel
rather than a plush sink-in feel, so it sits between a flatweave and a
thick pile.
Does it come with a rug pad?
No, the pad is sold separately. We strongly recommend using one.
How long does made-to-order take?
Message us with your size and we'll confirm the current weaving and
dispatch timeline before you order.
Can I get a custom size or shape?
Yes. We weave custom sizes, runners and rounds to order.
Will the colour match what I see on screen?
It's close, but screens vary. The rug is undyed natural wool — ivory to
oatmeal with soft brown flecks. Ask us for a real-light photo before
ordering if the exact tone matters.
Need a size that isn't listed? Send us a message with your room dimensions
and we'll quote a custom weave.
Rug Care & Maintenance
Vacuum gently once or twice a week using a brush attachment — avoid rotary brush heads. Do not machine wash. For spills, blot immediately with a dry cloth; never rub. With simple care, your handmade wool rug will stay beautiful for decades.

Questions, Answered
Everything you want to know before you buy
Handmade rugs raise real questions — about wool, shedding, sizing and shipping. Here are ours, answered plainly.
Can I order a custom size or colour?
Yes. Almost everything we make can be woven to your dimensions and palette, including round, runner and oversized pieces. Custom orders take about 4-6 weeks. Send us your measurements and a colour reference to start.
Are your rugs safe for pets and children?
Yes. Our rugs are crafted using natural wool and non-toxic dyes without chemical-backed coatings. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and flame-resistant, making it a great choice for family homes. If a loop is accidentally pulled by a pet, simply trim it carefully with scissors rather than pulling it.
Do I need a rug pad underneath it?
We highly recommend using one. A quality rug pad helps prevent slipping, protects your flooring, adds extra comfort underfoot, and extends the lifespan of your rug by reducing wear from daily foot traffic. It's especially beneficial on hardwood, tile, and other smooth surfaces.
How should I clean and care for my rug?
Vacuum weekly on a low setting. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth — press, don't rub. For anything that has set, use a professional rug cleaner. Avoid soaking the rug, bleach, and steam cleaning.
Do wool rugs shed, and for how long?
Yes, light shedding is normal during the first few weeks. These are loose fibers left from the finishing process and will gradually reduce with regular use. Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting (without a rotating beater bar), and shedding typically settles within about a month. It is a natural characteristic of quality wool rugs.
No question matches that. Message us and we'll answer it directly.
