rust-red-heriz-runner-rug-hand-knotted-wool-medallion-navy-ivory
Rust Red Heriz Runner Rug – Hand Knotted Wool Medallion Runner, Navy & Ivory

Rich, classic and confident. This rust red Heriz runner rug runs three bold geometric medallions down a warm rust red field, each built from deep navy angular petals around an ivory star flower, with stylised palmettes and leaves between them. A wide navy border of rust and ivory rosettes on a scrolling vine, edged with fine ivory guard stripes, frames the length. Hand knotted in wool on a cotton foundation and finished with a hand-tied fringe, it brings timeless Persian character to kitchens and halls.

Why hand knotted

Hand knotting is the oldest and most durable way to make a rug, which matters most in a hallway or kitchen where a runner takes daily foot traffic. Each wool knot is tied by hand around a cotton warp, row by row, then beaten down and clipped. There is no latex, no scrim and no backing cloth: the knots are the structure, so the pattern shows on the reverse and the fringe is the warp itself. No glue to dry out, no delamination, and a runner that can be washed, repaired and re-fringed for decades.

Materials and craftsmanship

The pile is hand-spun wool, dyed in small batches, which gives the rust field a gentle, natural variation (abrash) that mellows beautifully with age. The foundation is cotton warp and weft. Each runner is woven in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, India, then hand clipped, washed, stretched and finished.

Specifications

Construction

Hand knotted

Pile material

100% hand-spun wool

Foundation

Cotton warp and weft

Design

Heriz-style geometric medallion runner with navy floral border

Colours

Rust red, navy, ivory

Pile height

8–10 mm

Backing

None – no latex, no scrim

Edge finish

Hand-finished selvedges, warp-end fringe

Origin

Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, India

Production

Made to order – 10 to 15 days

Styling and placement

It is a natural match for navy or dark green shaker cabinets, white marble counters, brass knobs and dark oak floors. Blot kitchen spills immediately with a clean cloth. Turn the runner end to end every few months so wear stays even, and use a thin rug pad to stop it sliding on hard floors. Professional washing every three to five years keeps it fresh. Allow slight colour variation between batches and a size tolerance of up to 2%.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Heriz rug?

Heriz rugs come from the Heriz region of north-west Iran and are known for bold, angular medallions, rust and navy palettes and an exceptionally hard-wearing build.

How long does it take to make?

10 to 15 days from order, as each runner is knotted to order.
