gold-oushak-rug-hand-knotted-wool-mustard-blue
Gold Oushak Rug – Hand Knotted Wool Floral Area Rug, Mustard & Blue

Warm, rich and timeless. This gold Oushak rug scatters rust, slate blue, sage and ivory floral palmettes across a glowing golden mustard ground, framed by a slate blue border of gold vines and fine ivory guard stripes. Every knot is tied by hand onto a cotton foundation and finished with a hand-tied fringe, giving the rug the depth and character of a classic Anatolian carpet.

Why hand knotted

Hand knotting is the oldest and most durable way to make a rug. The weaver ties individual wool knots around a cotton warp, row by row, then beats each row down and clips the pile by hand. Nothing is glued: there is no latex, no scrim and no backing cloth. The structure of the rug is the knots themselves, which is why the pattern shows on the reverse and why the fringe is the warp itself rather than something sewn on.

In everyday use that means no adhesive layer to dry out or crumble, no delamination, and a rug that can be professionally washed, repaired and re-fringed for decades.

Materials and craftsmanship

The pile is hand-spun wool, dyed in small batches before weaving. Hand-spun yarn takes dye with subtle variation, creating gentle tonal movement (abrash) across the golden field. The foundation is cotton warp and weft for long-term stability. Each rug is woven in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, the carpet belt of India, then hand clipped, washed, stretched and finished.

Specifications

Construction

Hand knotted

Pile material

100% hand-spun wool

Foundation

Cotton warp and weft

Design

Oushak all-over floral palmette with blue border

Colours

Golden mustard, slate blue, rust, sage, ivory

Pile height

8–10 mm

Backing

None – no latex, no scrim

Edge finish

Hand-finished selvedges, warp-end fringe

Origin

Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, India

Production

Made to order – 10 to 15 days

Styling and placement

The golden field brings warmth to darker rooms, while the slate blue border ties in with navy or blue velvet seating. It looks rich on dark wood floors with cream boucle, brass lighting, olive or deep green walls and antique wood. It suits traditional, English country, eclectic, dark academia and transitional interiors.

For a three-seat sofa layout, 8 x 10 ft lets the front legs of all seating sit on the rug. A queen bed wants 8 x 10 ft; a king bed wants 9 x 12 ft. For a six-seat dining table, choose 8 x 10 ft so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out.

Care and longevity

Hand knotted rugs shed very little. Vacuum with suction only, beater bar off, and avoid the fringe. Blot spills immediately. Professional washing every three to five years is enough, and rotating twice a year keeps wear and sun exposure even. Because the wool is dyed and knotted by hand, allow slight colour variation between batches and a size tolerance of up to 2%. With a rug pad and reasonable care, expect decades of use.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to make?

Production takes 10 to 15 days from order, because each rug is knotted to order.
